Danbury High School Reviews

I'm a senior at DHS and I have always felt safe here. To parents worried about there being 'fights everyday' your child would have to be in the wrong place at the wrong time ALL THE TIME. I would be lying if I claimed I'd never seen a fight there, but certainly not everyday, at least not physical ones. The school itself is very well kept considering there are well over 3000 people in it on a daily basis between 7am and 7pm when most sports practices and games are over. My teachers have never left my e-mails unanswered so chances are if your not getting a response you've entered the wrong e-mail address. It is crowded and may seem chaotic but if you've stepped inside for 10 minutes+ I doubt you've felt unwelcome or nervous. Its diversity makes it great and its unlikely you wont find someone similar to you.

Parents that academically don't find their children challenged either have a genius on hand or a student who is not taking the higher level classes they should be. Another complaint I read dealt with the cleanliness of the school. I'm not quite sure if we attend the same school; the DHS I walk through on a daily basis is remarkably clean for the amount of students passing through its halls. I've never had an issue with any of my teachers; they ve all been very helpful when I needed assistance. Academically, you will find an expected disparity in teaching methods. Some teachers will hold your hand through the class, others will leave it up to you. Overall, it works and the teaching is effective if you're open to it and interested in learning. With that said, I firmly recommend Danbury High School to anyone considering it for his or her child.

I am a sophmore at dhs. I think that this school is not what everybody think it is... I dont think this school is dirty or poor. They do their best at cleaning it. And i think that the teachers do a very good job at teaching =]

My daugher goes to Danbury High School and she is in many honor and advnce classes. The school has an excelletn curriculum and the parents that complain are the parents with students that didn't sign up for the right classes (accroding to their intellectual abilities.) It has a great athletic program and you can count on diversity.

We were only at DHS for 1 semester and the best choice we ever made was moving out of Danbury. My child reported seeing fights everyday while attending this school. Emails I sent to teachers were not returned. Rules are not enforced and because of this I felt a sense of chaos upon entering and being in the school. Academically I didn not find my child challenged and upon starting a new school we found that the new school was ahead in just about every subject. I would not recommend this school.

Danbury High School is an overall great school. From the beginning of my freshmen year I felt like I belonged there. The academic programs are great, they give more opportunities than other schools. The classes I need to succeed in college are provided at Danbury High. There are many extracurricular activities there. Also if someone wants to start a new club they can, as long as it doesn't interfere with safety or racial issues. Danbury High is one of the best school in the state. I wouldn't want to spend my four years of high school anywhere else.It has everything a high school needs. They have the safety, the academic programs, extracurricular activities, and many teachers take there time out of there daily lives to help students who need to help with a particular subject.

The range of classes offered is countless from computers, business, art, science, history, etc, however DHS lacks the concentration needed to propel students for college. A good number of the classes are meant to diversify, but do not effectively instruct the student for related majors later on in college. Overall, the school is diverse, in nationality and classes, and the quality of the student's education there depends on taking the right course for him/her. There is potential for greatness here, but potential to greatly slack off as well.

Great school. All levels of support available from gifted/talented to remedial students. No one was left behind in the mix.

I am a sophomore at Danbury High and I absolutely hate it. I am a pretty intelligent kid and everyday I walk through that school feeling as if my intelligence is being insulted. The school is very poor and very dirty. The extra-curriculars are great as well as the sports. The music department will be great in a few years due to a new band director. The drama department puts on some of the greatest plays in the state. The list of AP programs is very extensive, but the teachers are not so great. If I had a choice, I would have gone into private schooling as a freshman.

Danbury High School is an excellent school. Towns around have little to no diversity, and DHS is somethign to be proud of. A melting pot of culture, it truley prepares its students for the real world. It's classes and extra curriciular activities are tremendous. The support of the coaches and upperclassmen helps to welcome new students. Everyone is open to befriend other ethnicities. If you want your child to look back at high school and remebember it as some of the best years of their lives, Danbury High is the place to send them.

Danbury High School is the smartest choice of a school for any parent to send their child to. It is diverse, with classes ranging from average to Advanced Placement (AP) and college credit course (UCONN) and there is a vast extracurricular range of activities including all sports, and every after school club imaginable. I personally am proud of DHS and I would recommend it to anyone thinking of attending.

Danbury High school is an excellent place for learning. The school is diverse ethnically and is more like the real world that our children will enter than the suburban schools. It offers such a wide range of course study that almost anything a student wishes to pursue a career in can be studied and much course work is college level. Classes range from core courses to aviation, child rearing, culinary arts, architechture design, among many others. I have always found the teachers to be very helpful and full of suggestions. If parents are involved in their children's learning, there is no way for your student to slip through the cracks. Tremendous school!

A terrific school, however, sports seen to take precedence over other activities and it is hard for students to be truly well-rounded and pursue several activities. For those who are not 'super-jocks', there is less opportunity to just play for fun. We have had three children in the school and have found classes to be challenging, teachers available and all have been well-prepared for college course work with no remediation classes necessary.

We moved to Danbury halfway through my daughter's junior year. I found it lacking in just about every area and as a result, my son will go to a private high school in Danbury

Danbury High is the best place to go to high school. It was so fun and always full of activities. There were so many after-school activities and events and such a variety of classes to choose from with terrific teachers!

DHS has to be the best school around. The students are all friendly and helpful. The staff is extraordinary. It's safe, pleasant, and it's full of opportunities. There are many classes and levels to meet your needs and a huge selection of electives. DHS is diverse and encourages cultural sensitivity. It's easy to make friends no matter what your personality is, there are many after school clubs and sports... DHS is truly a school to be proud of!
